Description
Maasai men perform an "out of context" jumping dance called Adumu. This dance is traditionally done by young warriors after successfully completing the Emuratta (circumcision rite of passage) while the young unmarried women of the tribe look on. The higher and more graceful the jumping, the more appeal the warrior has to the young women looking on. After this ceremony and the Eunoto (warrior-shaving ceremony), the men will have the opportunity to marry, which is motivation for doing their best during the Adumu dance.
