Description
A view of Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park. The river was named by early trappers for the steam that makes it appear to be smoking as if on fire. This photo was taken in Upper Geyser Basin area, but the river runs through 3 geyser basins. The river is surrounded by geothermal features which empty water into it which raises the temperature of the water 9 to 18 degrees F higher than the temperature further upstream.
